To improve my final Genre Analysis essay, I will better explain how the genre conventions explain the message used in the quotes for my analysis as opposed to focusing solely on the message in my analysis. Additionally, I will connect the quotes to the rhetorical purpose in each paragraph rather than doing it at the end of the essay. This will help connect the rhetorical purpose to the genre convention and message. For smaller things to revise, I can make my language concise at some points, and in the first paragraph, I can put analysis between two consecutive quotes. I plan on adding analysis on how the genre conventions explained in the quote help create the genre, memoir or coming of age.

Using Past Assignments to Revise

Some class activities that have helped me revise my second draft include the Power of Process Self Review assignment, which made me look back at my topic sentences to realize that I did not have topic sentences for some of my smaller paragraphs. When looking over peer review that I received for the second draft, I see that I can talk more about how the two genre conventions work together or do not work together to help show the message and rhetorical purpose. Showing the relationship between the two genre conventions helps make the essay complete because it shows the bigger picture of how genre conventions show message and rhetorical purpose.

In relation to the rubric specifically, I think that I have thus far done a good job on including all the elements in the thesis and following the thesis’s order. The main thing I can improve on in terms of the rubric is “Purpose: Genre-Based Rhetorical Analysis,” meaning that I can focus more on looking at genre conventions (GA essay rubric).
